Beginner
Throwing
This level is designed for people who are completely new to the pottery wheel or have very limited experience. The focus is on learning the core foundations of wheel throwing and becoming comfortable working with clay.
You’ll learn the essential steps of the throwing process, including preparing clay, centering on the wheel, opening the clay, pulling up walls, and shaping simple forms such as cylinders and small bowls. A lot of time at this stage is spent developing the feel of the clay and understanding how small movements affect the shape of your pot.
Throwing can take patience, and it’s normal for pieces to collapse or feel uneven at first. The aim at this stage isn’t perfection but building confidence and muscle memory. The goal at this level is to build your confidence on the wheel so that you understand the throwing process from start to finish and can produce simple forms independently.
