Improver
Throwing
At the improver stage, you’ll likely already have some experience on the wheel and feel comfortable centering clay and throwing basic forms. The focus here is on developing greater consistency and control in your work.
At this point you’ll begin refining your throwing technique so that walls become more even, shapes stronger, and results more reliable. You may start exploring variations on familiar forms such as bowls, mugs, and small vessels, while thinking more intentionally about proportion, balance, and function.
As your confidence grows, you may also begin experimenting with techniques such as throwing larger pieces, working with lids or handles, altering thrown forms, or combining wheel throwing with simple hand-building methods. The aim at this stage is to move from simply making pots to making more deliberate choices about form and design, helping you develop your own style and greater confidence at the wheel.
